Depending
on the period you're going through, erotic dreams can be linked to a lack of
sexual fulfillment in real life. Or, conversely, the tendency to have and
remember such dreams can be fuelled by intense sexual activity, or at least by
a strong relationship with desire. In all cases, erotic dreams correspond to the
staging in imaginary space of what we want to do in real life. In detail,
according to a study published on the subject, the most recurrent situations
occupying « X » rated dream space are: making love with a stranger,
with a person of the same sex, at the office with a colleague, in an unusual
location or with a celebrity.
« Excitement
feeds on the imaginary »
When
they occur from time to time, erotic dreams often have a pleasant quality. And
we're sometimes surprised by the partner or partners we come across during our
nights, whether or not we've known them in real life. Or the composition of
certain scenes. The fact remains that these night-time dreams can boost your
libido when you're awake. Excitement is nourished by the imaginary, sometimes
crazy, sometimes twisted, because the imaginary is the full extent of the
possible, an extraordinary reinforcement to simply genital excitement.
What's
the impact on mental health?
According
to Freudian theory, the unconscious and life drives lead to such dreams. So
there's nothing to worry about. But to what extent can they affect our psychic
life?If they become too repetitive and pervasive, they can become deleterious
to our mental health. In any case, it can be useful to confide in someone if
these frequent dreams trigger a form of psychological suffering. One last
question: what does it mean if these sensual dreams evoking our desire occur
very often, even though we're in a relationship? It could be a sign of a lack of
fulfillment in your sex life, or a desire to discover yourself in a different
way, alone or with your wife or husband. If it's something that intrigues or
even worries you, why not try talking about it as a couple, or confide in a
psychologist or sexologist?
