An
erection that's less vigorous, less long-lasting or even non-existent. It may
not just be a question of fatigue or stress. There are often overlooked and
sometimes very serious causes of this problem.
If
you have persistent erectile problems, you should seek medical advice. Even if
it's not always easy to talk about it, the earlier the problem is tackled, the
better it will be treated.
Fat
in the arteries
Persistent
and even worsening erectile difficulties may be a sign of atherosclerosis. This
disease is characterised by the formation of fatty deposits on the walls of the
arteries, or "atheromatous plaques", which narrow them, and by a
thickening of the blood. As a result, the blood is less able to supply the
cavernous bodies of the penis, which struggles to harden. A man with permanent
erectile dysfunction runs the risk of developing a cardiovascular problem, such
as a heart attack, within 3 to 5 years.
Neurodegenerative
disease
A man suffering from Alzheimer's disease, for example, may have difficulty achieving an erection. For an erection to occur, the nerve must give a signal, the blood vessels relax and blood can then fill and dilate them, causing the cavernous bodies of the penis to swell. With Parkinson's disease, the signal takes longer to be triggered.
Beware
of medication
Some
medicines make the blood vessels less flexible, and can disrupt and alter the
erection. If you are concerned that medication may be the cause of erectile
dysfunction, talk to your doctor.
Diabetes
Diabetes
very often leads to erectile dysfunction. It is estimated that 30-50% of the
10-15% of men with erectile dysfunction have diabetes. By increasing blood
sugar levels, diabetes damages blood vessels and nerves. Among them, those of
the penis. Indirectly, the drugs
prescribed for diabetes or its complications can also alter the nerves, and
therefore the quality of the erection.
Lack
of testosterone
A
hormonal imbalance, i.e. a lack of testosterone in men, can be responsible for
erectile dysfunction.High blood pressureHigh blood pressure makes the blood
vessels less supple, so the cavernous bodies of the penis, which are like a
sponge, are less able to absorb incoming blood and the penis swells less.It is
also possible that blood pressure medication is the cause of erectile
dysfunction.
Too
much alcohol and tobacco
In
the long term, alcohol is very bad for sexuality.Alcohol causes impotence by
altering blood vessels, nerves and the secretion of testosterone by the
testicles. Do not exceed 1 glass of alcohol a day, and preferably not every
day. Smoking alters the vessels by encouraging the deposition of atheromatous
plaques and fatty deposits, which reduce their calibre and elasticity, with
harmful consequences for erections.
Being
overweight and sedentary
People
who are overweight are more prone to erectile dysfunction. The same applies to
people who do not engage in regular physical activity.
DepressionErectile
dysfunction has a psychological cause.
Stress, fear, anxiety and depression are all very harmful. Depression is
a desire for nothing, and therefore no desire for sex. Depression requires
regular medical attention.
Surgery
If
you have recently undergone surgery in the pelvic region, such as removal of
the prostate or injury to the spinal cord, the nerves and arteries needed to
achieve and maintain an erection may have been damaged.
Overcoming
erectile dysfunction
Couples
have the power to change the situation.Talking to your partner about the issue
is very important and can be very beneficial, as nothing positive comes from
not saying something. It's also vital to talk to your doctor to determine the
potential causes of erectile dysfunction and discuss possible solutions.
Recipe
1: Ingredients for two people. 100 g fresh pineapple flesh, a piece of fresh
ginger (or a teaspoon of powdered ginger), 325 ml water, a few drops of lemon
juice. Peel the pineapple and cut the flesh into pieces.Peel and chop the
ginger into small pieces. Blend the pineapple and ginger. Add the water and
blend again. Strain the drink through a fine sieve.Add a few drops of lemon
juice and blend.Chill for 2 hours before serving.Recipe 2: ½ teaspoon
"Atikanli" Guinea pepper (Xylopia aethiopica), ½ teaspoon ginger
powder (zingiber officinale), 20 cl bissap juice (hibiscus safdariffa) Heat the
ingredients. Leave to cool, filter and drink 1 glass, 1 hour before taking
action.
Recipe
3: 1 cup hot water, 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder, 1/2 lemon (or lime), 1/2
teaspoon honey. Heat the water without boiling.Add the turmeric to the hot
water, squeeze the lemon and add the honey.Mix well, as the honey doesn't
dissolve easily and the turmeric tends to settle to the bottom of the cup. Now
it's ready! You can drink this Turmeric Lemon infusion whenever you like, but
ideally it should be drunk on an empty stomach, before breakfast.Drink it
between 45°C and 60°C.If the water is not hot enough, the effects will not be
optimal, and if it is too hot, it will be hot and unpleasant to drink. If you
are doing a course of treatment, you can drink 2 cups a day for a fortnight,
followed by a further two-week break before eventually resuming.
