It's
sometimes difficult to prioritise your own well-being, given the stressful life
you lead at the office or in the departments. However, by adopting a few
healthy habits, you can turn your working day into an energising experience
that's good for your health.
Here
are some healthy habits to help you stay in shape at the office.
Start the day with a balanced breakfast
Breakfast
is often overlooked, but it's essential for getting the day off to a good
start. Opt for a balanced breakfast that includes whole-grain foods, proteins,
fruit and vegetables. You can prepare your meal the night before to save time
in the morning. For breakfast, you can have millet porridge, eggs, sautéed
vegetables and a touch of fresh fruit, millet porridge, fresh fruit and nuts
for sustained energy throughout the morning.
Packing a lunch
Preparing
your breakfast at home not only saves you money, it also gives you total
control over your food choices. Opt for a healthy local breakfast including
lean proteins, colourful vegetables and cereals. This will help maintain energy
levels throughout the day.
Choose healthy snacks
Avoid
the temptations of biscuit shopping by keeping healthy snacks on hand. Fill
your drawer with whole grain crackers, plain yellow popcorn, peanuts, cashews,
and make yourself a lemongrass or kinkeliba tea. Stay active at work
Incorporate
physical activity into your work routine to boost energy levels and reduce
stress. This means taking the stairs instead of the lift and taking advantage
of breaks to stretch or go for a short walk. Simple gestures such as walking to
a colleague's desk instead of sending an e-mail or WhatsApp message can also
contribute to a more active day.
Energise your day in a healthy way
Drink
enough water throughout the day. Opt for a reusable water bottle and add a touch
of flavour with lemon, cucumber or mint. Limit your caffeine intake to one cup
to avoid energy spikes followed by sudden drops.
Keep smiling and positive
It's
a good idea to get rid of worries at home before you get to the office. Transferring
worries from home to the workplace is a source of stress, anger and
frustration. It's a major threat to health. Making the effort to smile allows
you to forget your worries and be courteous and positive with your colleagues. It's
very beneficial and therapeutic. During bad times, make a relaxing tea of
lemongrass, mint, kinkeliba, lemon juice and honey.
