Comprehensive
sexuality education gives young people information about the body, sexual
health, relationships and contraception to help them make informed decisions.
Specialists in sexual and reproductive health recommend providing this
information clearly at home and at school, especially at a time when social
networks have a great influence on young people.
Sex
education must be given a high priority, especially in a society where social
media have taken on a central role in young people's lives. Many
obstetrician-gynecologists and SRH specialists emphasize the importance of
rigorous sex education for adolescents, pointing out that abstinence may be the
best protection against the risks associated with early sex.
However,
in order to make abstinence effective, it is essential to provide young people
with clear and relevant sex education, not only within the family, but also in
schools. It's important not to allow students to learn exclusively from social
networks, a space where often erroneous and dangerous information circulates.
Sex
education needs to be a collective effort, involving both parents and
educators, to ensure that young people have access to reliable knowledge about
how their sexual organs work and the repercussions of sexual intercourse,
especially when unprotected. It is essential to
use contraceptive methods to avoid unwanted pregnancies among sexually active
teenagers. The consequences of teenage pregnancy can be serious, both
health-wise and socially. Adolescents are often forced to undergo clandestine
abortions in precarious conditions, putting their lives at risk.
There
are also significant social consequences of unwanted teenage pregnancy. Many
students drop out of school due to pregnancy, jeopardizing their future. In
some families, pregnancy before marriage is strongly condemned, even causing
some teenagers to run away.
To
avoid such tragedies, it's vital that parents discuss sexuality with their
children, with tact and pedagogy. Well-organized sex education is essential to
protect teenagers from the harmful consequences of unprotected sex. It is
essential that it empowers young people to make informed and responsible
decisions, providing them with accurate information and encouraging them to
take care of their health and their future.
