Walking is often underestimated, yet it is one of the
essential pillars of good health, alongside a balanced diet and
psycho-emotional harmony. Simple,
accessible and effective, walking for an hour a day can transform your sense of
well-being. Regular physical activity, such as walking, is
beneficial throughout life, improving physical and mental health and even life
expectancy.
Walking is distinguished by its simplicity. It's an
activity you can easily incorporate into your daily routine, taking every
opportunity to get moving. Even a 30-minute walk, divided into several
10-minute sessions, can have positive effects on health. However, walking for 1
hour a day, and ideally 1? hours, maximises the benefits.
Improve life expectancy and energy levels
Walking regularly can reduce the risk of mortality by more than 30%, particularly for people who walk 1? hours a day. This activity also helps to restore energy by stimulating blood and lymph circulation, thereby promoting the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the cells, while helping to eliminate toxins.
Promoting quality sleep and mental health
Walking, especially in a natural environment, not only
improves your mood, but also your cognitive abilities and mental health. It also
contributes to better quality sleep, provided you don't walk intensely before
bedtime.
Stimulate metabolism and organs
Walking activates the general metabolism, supporting
the function of organs such as the liver, heart and pancreas. It also helps to
regulate weight and improve blood sugar levels, thereby reducing the chronic
inflammation responsible for many health problems.
Strengthen muscles, joints and bones
Walking is good for muscle and tendon tone, while
strengthening joints. It also stimulates bone regeneration, which is essential
for preventing osteoporosis. It's a gentle activity that minimises the risk of
injury, while being extremely effective in maintaining mobility and
independence.
Practical advice
Choose comfortable, flexible, well-fitting shoes,
preferably with non-slip soles. Drink
plenty of fluids before setting off, and take a water bottle with you if you're
walking for more than 30 minutes. You should also aim for regularity
rather than performance, adapting your walk to your physical condition on the
day.
