According to a study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, drinking two or more cups of coffee a day can double the risk of cardiac death in people with severe hypertension (160/100 mm Hg or more).  People with severe hypertension should avoid drinking too much coffee.  They are more sensitive to the effects of caffeine, which can increase the risk of death. Coffee is rich in antioxidants and has been associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease. However, the response to caffeine can be individual, and some people are more sensitive to its effects. Limit yourself to a single cup of coffee. Opt for green tea too. If you are concerned about hypertension, focus on regular physical exercise, a balanced diet (low in sodium and high in potassium), stress management and reducing salt and alcohol consumption.
