The
President of the Council, Faure Gnassingbé, visited the construction site of
the Regional Agricultural Mechanisation Centre (CRMA) in Tchitchao and the
Prefectural Hospital Centre (CHP) in Kantè on Monday 26 January 2026.
Launched
on 20 April 2023, on the sidelines of the culmination of the first National
Forum of Agricultural Producers of Togo (FoPAT), construction work on the CRMA
is progressing at a steady pace.
Covering
an area of three hectares, the Centre is already fenced in and all the
infrastructure, such as the mechanical workshop, exhibition park, storage
warehouses, administrative block, expatriate accommodation block and student
accommodation, has been completed. The road works have also been finalised and
are already facilitating accessibility and organisation of the site. At the
same time, the training and simulation room is being finished, with a
completion rate of over 90%. The total cost of the work amounts to 1.8 billion FCFA
excluding tax. This investment reflects the importance and scale of the infrastructure
built on the site. Once operational, the Tchitchao Regional Centre for Agricultural
Mechanisation (CRMA) will facilitate all stages of agricultural production in
favour of extensive farming. It will thus play a major role in the development
of the agricultural sector by providing solutions tailored to the needs of
farmers.
There
are plans to build a CRMA in each region of Togo to ensure equitable regional
access to mechanisation services and support agricultural development
nationwide. The construction of the Regional Agricultural Mechanisation Centre
(CRMA) for the Plateaux-Ouest region is the second strategic project dedicated
to agricultural mechanisation. With the gradual establishment of CRMAs, a new
horizon is opening up for Togolese agriculture, driven by modernisation,
improved productivity and enhanced support for farmers.
Prior
to this visit, the President of the Council visited the Prefectural Hospital
Centre (CHP) in Kantè in the prefecture of Kéran, where he inquired about the
progress of the rehabilitation and construction of infrastructure as part of
the Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (SONU) project
