A New Zealand study recommends that type 2 diabetic patients change their exercise routine to optimise blood sugar reduction. According to the journal « Diabetologia », walking just after eating in the evening is more effective in controlling blood sugar. A 10 to 20 minute walk after eating helps control blood sugar levels. These short walks lower blood sugar levels by 12% compared to walking once a day. This improvement is even more significant after dinner, when the average blood sugar intake appears to be higher: blood sugar levels drop by 22%. In conclusion, the researchers advise diabetic patients to change the way they move by taking a short walk after each meal, especially after carbohydrate-rich meals such as bread, rice, potatoes and pasta. This practice allows them to reduce their need for insulin injections.
